Standard V: Managerial Leadership

School executives will ensure that the school has processes and systems in place for budgeting, staffing, problem-solving, communicating expectations, and scheduling that result in organizing the work routines in the building. The school executive must be responsible for the monitoring of the school budget and the inclusion of all teachers in budget decision so as to meet the 21st century needs of every classroom. Effectively and efficiently managing the complexity of every day life is critical for staff to be able to focus its energy on improvement.

Standard 5a: School Resources and Budget

Proficient: Works with others to incorporate the input of the School Improvement Team in budget and resource decisions; works with others to use feedback and data to assess the success of funding and program decisions.

Activities:

  • Worked with others to understand the budget process in RRGSD, as well as to examine the flow chart of "who's who" in both our school and district finance office
  • Worked with School Progress Management Team (SPMT) to analyze and discuss the various constructs of the NC Teacher Working Conditions Survey, including examining the use and effectiveness of school resource allocation

Standard 5b: Conflict Management and Resolution

Proficient: Works with others to resolve problems and/or areas of conflict within the school in ways that improve student achievement.

Activities:

  • Worked with grade level team and reading coaches to help resolve conflict(s) related to student tutoring groups and DIBELS data
  • Worked with specific teacher on understanding and utilizing EVAAS data, and used that information to help alleviate a conflict around an intervention for those students

Standard 5c: Systematic Communication

Proficient: Works with others to utilize a system of open communication that provides for the timely, responsible sharing of information within the school community; works with others to provide information in different formats in multiple ways through different media in order to ensure communication with all members of the community.

Activities:

  • Constructed and distributed Belmont's weekly staff newsletter concerning important events, updates, etc.
  • Assisted in disseminating information via hard- and soft-copy to the staff each week

Standard 5d: School Expectations for Students and Staff

Proficient: Works with others to communicate and enforce clear expectations, structures, rules, and procedures for students and staff; works with others to effectively implement district rules and procedures.

Activities:

  • Worked with School Leadership & Improvement Teams to set clear definitions, guidelines, and procedures to address incidents of bullying by helping to create and finalize a school-wide "Bullying Intervention Plan"
  • Created a "mini-PD" reinforcing guidelines for writing clear learning targets
